Sustainable Certification
Sustainability partners for over 15 years.
On March 16, 2009, the Township of Bloomfield authorized Greener Bloomfield to serve the town's official green team and adopted the Resolution, "Supporting Participation in the Sustainable Jersey Municipal Certification Program" with the Mayor and Town Council affirming that they wished to pursue local initiatives and actions that, when implemented and documented to meet the program's set of rigorous standards, would lead to Sustainable Jersey Municipal Certification.
That same year, Greener Bloomfield was instrumental in the Township of Bloomfield becoming one of the first 28 municipalities in the State of New Jersey to be awarded Sustainable Jersey Bronze Level certification, bringing state-wide recognition to Bloomfield's commitment to creating green and sustainable processes in township operations.
Fostering a sustainable future.
The ongoing collaborative partnership between the Township and Greener Bloomfield has resulted in Bloomfield maintaining its municipal certification over the past fifteen years while sustaining the township's eligibility for the program's financial grants and abundance of technical resources.
Most recently, on September 16th, 2024, Sustainable Jersey awarded the Township of Bloomfield its fifth Bronze level certification with an application that documented fifteen sustainable actions completed across six categories for a total of 165 points.
Greener Bloomfield and the Township of Bloomfield continue to work together to make progress towards a more sustainable future.
Bringing sustainable actions to schools.
In 2021, the Sustainable Jersey for Schools Program was launched to certify individual schools and school districts. Greener Bloomfield volunteers were proud to be asked to work with the Bloomfield Puiblic School District on Actions that contributed to their applications for certification in both 2021 and 2024.
About the program.
The Sustainable Jersey Municipal Certification Program provides municipalities with a roadmap of sustainable "Actions" that, when followed, improve communities that want to go green, save money and take steps to sustain their quality of life over the long term.
Launched in 2009, Sustainable Jersey is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that offers tools, training and financial incentives to support and reward communities as they pursue sustainability programs. Municipalities that achieve Sustainable Jersey certification are considered by their peers, state government and experts and civic organizations in New Jersey, to be among the leaders in the state.
